Meet the Artist

“My father’s mother Mary grew up in Ayr, Scotland - a small town on the southwest coast full of beauty and laughter. Her friends called her Mae. She met and married my grandfather Lincoln in Scotland during World War II while she worked as a telephone switchboard operator.

As the story goes, Mae first met Linc when she heard his voice on the other end of a phone call. Somehow, they arranged to meet in person. Perhaps it was a common way to meet, but in my mind, it could be one of the most romantic stories of all time. They married in Scotland and moved to the United States soon after.

Mae’s choice to emigrate to the States began a string of events that eventually led to my birth, and my immense love for her. She barely stood five feet tall. She had my favorite laugh of all time. I still can’t quite replicate her thick Scottish accent. My parents named me Scott (in part) because of her Scottish heritage. Mae and Linc used to send me Scottish comic books as a Christmas present, which I cherish to this day.

I thought it only fitting to dedicate the work of my hands to our Scottish blood and put a touch of Ayr into everything I make. Each AYR FURNISHINGS piece features a small emblem of a thistle - the national emblem of Scotland.

I wish you endless memories sitting at our tables, sharing the iconic food of your family, and may your table always be surrounded in laughter.

GIE IT LALDY!”
